Wir sind nach Stuttgart gefahren – beruflich. Auf der Fahrt konnte uns aber nichts passieren, denn im Auto habe ich einen Schutzengel getroffen. Sie heißt Nici.

On a business trip, we had to go to the city of Stuttgart. Nothing could harm us on our journey, because inside our car I met a guardian angel. Her name is Nici.

Auch wenn nicht allzu viel Freizeit gab, das leckere Essen und Trinken in Schwaben konnte ich genießen!
Although I did not have much free time, I could enjoy the tasty food and drinks here in Swabia.

Aber am Ende hatten wir doch Zeit und wir waren in der Wilhelma. Das ist ein zoologisch-botanischer Garten in Stuttgart/Bad Cannstatt. Der Name stammt von dem Gründer, das war König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg. Hier gibt es viele tolle Pflanzen und Tiere zu bestaunen.

But at the end we had some free time and we managed to visit the Wilhelma, which is a zoological and botanical garden in Stuttgart/Bad Cannstatt. The name comes from its founder, King Wilhelm I. from Württemberg, a local king. Lots of fantastic plants and animals live here to gaze at.

This one IS alive!

Bei manchen Tieren war ich doch froh, dass diese nicht lebendig waren. Der Alligator hat echt böse ausgeschaut – und die Zähne erst! Und seht euch mal den Gorilla Schädel an. Der ist ja größer als ich! Obwohl, einen Silberrücken habe ich auch 🙂

Boy, how lucky I was that some animals were not alive! This alligator looked really mean – not to think of his teeth! And look at the skull of that gorilla. It is bigger than I am! But, on the other hand, I’m a silver-back, too 🙂

Und ich habe noch etwas entdeckt: kennt ihr die Bäume? Ja, das sind Mammutbäume, so wie in der alten Heimat Kalifornien! König Wilhelm hat die Saat dafür um 1850 aus Amerika importieren lassen.

I discovered another thing: do you know this kind of trees? Yes, these are redwoods, just like in my old home country California! King Wilhelm imported the seets about 1850 from America.

Man erzählt sich, er habe sich in der Größe der Samen verschätzt und somit eine viel zu große Menge davon bekommen. Einige hat er pflanzen lassen und den Rest hat er verkauft. Somit kann man jetzt in der gesamten Gegend Mammutbäume finden!
The story goes that he underestimated (or over-estimated, to be precise) the size of the seets, and thus he got too many of them. He planted some and sold the rest. Now you can find redwood trees all over in the whole area!

Zum Abschluss waren wir in einem tollen Restaurant zum Abendessen. Das war in dem ältesten Wohnhaus in Stuttgart – gebaut 1463!
Finally for dinner, we were in the oldest residential house, which is a restaurant now. The house was built in 1463!
